Moneyball

You might think sport was rather peripheral to this question; and this is the Sport round. But Moneyball was a true story, about the efforts of Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland Athletics baseball franchise, to assemble a competitive team in the 2002 season, faced with the limitations of the franchise's budget.

In the film, Beane (played by Brad Pitt) and his assistant Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) build a team of undervalued talent by taking a sophisticated statistical approach to the scouting and analysis of players.

Moneyball premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and was released on September 23, 2011 to box office success and critical acclaim. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor for Pitt and Best Supporting Actor for Hill.
